Stonework

Curved Sandstone Retaining Wall

A curved garden retaining wall shown at two points in the job: first as a bare blockwork core, then faced in random rubble sandstone.

Sandstone, random rubble

Construction

Blockwork core with stone facing

Details

Curved on plan, weep pipes at the base

This retaining wall curves across a sloping garden.

The first photo shows the blockwork core on its own: concrete blocks, curved on plan, with weep pipes near the base and thin wire ties hanging from the bed joints, ready for the facing.

The other two show the same wall faced in random rubble sandstone in buff, brown and grey. Small pinnings pack the gaps between the bigger stones, several faces carry tooling marks, and the weep pipes come through the new face.
